Balatro Achieves Massive Sales Milestone
Last year was filled with remarkable games, but none captured the hearts of players and critics quite like the indie roguelike, Balatro. Developed by the solo talent LocalThunk, this game not only received widespread critical acclaim but also achieved astonishing commercial success, with sales soaring past 5 million copies!
Just over a month ago, LocalThunk was celebrating a significant milestone of 3.5 million copies sold. Astonishingly, within the next 40 days, Balatro added another 1.5 million copies to its tally. This surge can likely be attributed to the "The Game Awards effect," a phenomenon the developer subtly acknowledged in a tweet.
Harvey Elliott, the CEO of publisher Playstack, hailed this milestone as an incredible achievement deserving of celebration. He expressed immense pride in both the game's developer and the dedicated team at Playstack.
Almost a year after its release, Balatro continues to flourish. The card-based roguelike game keeps its community engaged with regular updates, including exciting collaborations. Recently, it even set a new personal record for peak concurrent players on Steam, demonstrating its enduring popularity and appeal.
