Pokemon TCG Pocket: Paralyzed, Explained (& All Cards with ‘Paralyze’ Ability)
This guide explores the Paralyze condition in Pokémon TCG Pocket, detailing its mechanics, cures, and strategic applications.
Paralyzed: A Special Condition Explained
Paralyze immobilizes an opponent's Active Pokémon for a turn, preventing attacks and retreats. This effect automatically ends before the player's next turn begins.
Paralyze vs. Asleep
Both Paralyze and Asleep prevent attacks and retreats. However, Paralyze resolves automatically, while Asleep requires a coin flip or specific counter-strategies to cure.
Paralyze in Pokémon TCG Pocket vs. Physical TCG
The core mechanic remains consistent across both versions. Unlike the physical card game, Pokémon TCG Pocket currently lacks Trainer cards specifically designed to counter Paralysis.
Pokémon with Paralyze Abilities
Currently, only three Genetic Apex cards inflict Paralysis: Pincurchin, Elektross, and Articuno. Each uses a coin flip, making consistent Paralysis unreliable.
Curing Paralysis
Four methods exist:
- Waiting: The effect automatically ends at the start of the next turn.
- Evolution: Evolving the affected Pokémon instantly removes Paralysis.
- Retreating: Moving the Pokémon to the Bench removes the condition.
- Support Cards: Currently, only Koga offers targeted Paralysis removal, but only under specific conditions (Weezing or Muk).
Building a Paralyze Deck
Paralysis alone is insufficient for a competitive deck. Combining it with Asleep, such as using Articuno & Frosmoth, creates a more effective strategy. This approach utilizes Articuno, Frosmoth, and Wigglytuff ex to apply both conditions. A sample decklist is provided below:
Card | Quantity |
---|---|
Wigglypuff ex | 2 |
Jigglypuff | 2 |
Snom | 2 |
Frosmoth | 2 |
Articuno | 2 |
Misty | 2 |
Sabrina | 2 |
X Speed | 2 |
Professor's Research | 2 |
Poke Ball | 2 |
