Best Khonshu Decks in Marvel Snap

Attention all discard deck enthusiasts in *Marvel Snap* – the moon deity Khonshu has arrived, bringing with him a fascinating new tool for discard-centric strategies. This card is among the most intricate that Second Dinner has introduced yet, so let's delve into how Khonshu functions within the game.

How Khonshu Works in Marvel Snap

Khonshu is a 6-cost card with an initial power of 5 and an ability that states: When discarded, it returns in its next phase. On Reveal: Resurrect a card you discarded to another location with its Power set to 5.

Khonshu's 'next phase' transforms him into a 6-cost, 8-power card with the ability: When discarded, returns in its final phase. On Reveal: Resurrect a card you discarded to another location with its Power set to 8.

Khonshu's 'final phase' is a 6-cost, 12-power card with the ability: On Reveal: Resurrect a card you discarded to another location with its Power set to 12.

As you can see, each time Khonshu is discarded, he returns to your hand and upgrades, enhancing his On Reveal effect significantly. This mechanic bears similarity to Apocalypse's functionality.

The typical strategy with Khonshu involves discarding him once or twice before playing him on the final turn, thereby resurrecting a card that benefits from a power increase, such as Iron Man or Gorr the God Butcher.

Despite Khonshu's limitation in not being able to revive a specific card, deploying a 12-power final phase Khonshu on turn 6 to resurrect a 1-cost card like Meek, now powered to 12, can frequently clinch victories.

It will likely require extensive experimentation before players, including myself, determine the optimal deck for Khonshu, as he may not mesh well with traditional discard strategies. I envision him fitting best into a Darkhawk-style Stature deck, along with some alternative discard-type decks. Let's examine the former:

  • Korg
  • Blade
  • Fenris Wolf
  • Juggernaut
  • Moon Knight
  • Lady Sif
  • Rock Slide
  • Silver Samurai
  • Darkhawk
  • Black Bolt
  • Stature
  • Khonshu

The only Series 5 card in this lineup is Fenris Wolf, which is crucial as resurrecting an opponent's discarded card via Moon Knight, Silver Samurai, or Black Bolt can often be a winning move.

The gameplay with this deck is relatively straightforward: fill your opponent's deck with rocks to bolster Darkhawk's power, and discard Khonshu as often as possible. Beyond Fenris Wolf, Rock Slide, and Silver Samurai, Moon Knight will consistently target Khonshu, and Blade will hit him again after he returns to your hand. The challenge lies in timing your discards – you want Moon Knight to hit Khonshu, not Rock Slide.

After setting up, play Stature as early as possible to prepare for a turn 5 Darkhawk play and a turn 6 Khonshu to revive a card with 8 to 12 power. Since all these cards have less than 8 power, Khonshu directly boosts their power.

While Khonshu may not fit seamlessly into traditional discard decks over Apocalypse, there's ample room for experimentation. His 6-cost nature makes it challenging to pair him with Apocalypse without energy ramp. In the following list, this is achieved with Corvus Glaive:

  • Miek
  • Scorn
  • Blade
  • Morbius
  • Swarm
  • Moon Knight
  • Corvus Glaive
  • Lady Sif
  • Dracula
  • MODOK
  • Khonshu
  • Apocalypse

The only Series 5 card here is Scorn, which can be swapped with another discard activator like Colleen Wing or X-23 for more energy ramp.

This deck leans toward a traditional discard style but hinges on executing Corvus Glaive on turn 3 to enable playing Khonshu alongside other discard activators, thereby powering up Apocalypse and flooding the board. Whether this setup will surpass traditional discard lists without Khonshu is yet to be determined, but with Moon Knight, Blade, and Lady Sif, you should have no trouble getting Khonshu to his final phase while maintaining a strong Apocalypse for Dracula to absorb.

Is Khonshu Worth Spotlight Cache Keys or Collector’s Tokens?

Regardless of your affinity for discard decks, Khonshu stands out as a card that is as powerful as it is intriguing. It's likely that we'll see him featured prominently in various hybrid discard lists, potentially becoming a meta-relevant card. If you have the resources, it's definitely worth acquiring Khonshu.
