Stardew Guide: Honey Cultivation Mastered

Author : Skylar Update : Jan 25,2025

This guide delves into the surprisingly lucrative world of honey production in Stardew Valley. While often overlooked, honey offers a simple yet profitable path to wealth, particularly when combined with strategic flower cultivation. This updated guide incorporates all the latest information from version 1.6.

Bee House Construction

Bee House

Honey production hinges on the humble Bee House. Unlocked at Farming Level 3, this structure requires:

  • 40 Wood
  • 8 Coal
  • 1 Iron Bar
  • 1 Maple Syrup

Alternatively, a Bee House can be obtained by completing the Fall Crops Bundle or as a potential prize from the Mayor's Prize Counter.

Place your Bee House outdoors—on your farm, in the forest, or even at the quarry. It produces honey every 3-4 days in all seasons except winter (year-round on Ginger Island). Use an axe or pickaxe to relocate a Bee House; any ready honey will drop. Note that Bee Houses are unproductive within the Greenhouse.

Honey Types and Flower Influence

Flower Variety

Without nearby flowers (within a five-tile radius), Bee Houses yield Wild Honey (100g, 140g with Artisan). Planting flowers dramatically increases both honey type and value. This includes flowers in Garden Pots. Remember, harvesting a flower before collecting its corresponding honey reverts the yield to Wild Honey.

The Artisan profession (Farming Level 10) boosts Artisan goods by 40%. Here's a price breakdown:

Honey Type Base Sell Price Artisan Sell Price
Tulip Honey 160g 224g
Blue Jazz Honey 200g 280g
Sunflower Honey 260g 364g
Summer Spangle Honey 280g 392g
Poppy Honey 380g 532g
Fairy Rose Honey 680g 952g

Flowers from Wild Seeds (e.g., Sweet Peas, Daffodils) produce only Wild Honey.

Honey Uses

While premium honeys are best sold directly, Wild Honey and less valuable varieties serve other purposes:

  • Mead: Place honey in a Keg to produce Mead. Aging in a Cask enhances quality and value:

    • Normal: 200g (280g)
    • Silver: 250g (350g)
    • Gold: 300g (420g)
    • Iridium: 400g (560g) Note: Honey type doesn't affect Mead's value; use Wild Honey for maximum profit.
  • Crafting: Combine honey with Hardwood and Fiber to craft a Warp Totem: Farm (Farming Level 8).

  • Community Center: Honey completes the Artisan Bundle.

  • Gifting: Most villagers appreciate honey as a Liked gift; Wild Honey is an excellent, readily available option for friendship building. Mead is also a popular gift (avoid Penny, Sebastian, and children).
