DC's Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow Begins Filming; First Look at Milly Alcock Revealed

Production has officially commenced on DC Studios' upcoming film, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. To mark the occasion, DC Studios head James Gunn shared a first look at Milly Alcock (House of the Dragon) as Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl.

The image, posted on Bluesky, shows Alcock seated in her director's chair. Gunn's accompanying message expressed his excitement about the project, confirming Craig Gillespie (Cruella, I, Tonya) as director, a fact previously reported last April.

Plot details remain scarce, but the film will closely adapt Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Norgueira's acclaimed graphic novel. This standalone story centers on Ruthye Marye Knoll, an alien girl seeking Supergirl's aid in avenging her father's murder at the hands of the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills. The graphic novel received an Eisner Award nomination for "Best Limited Series" in 2022.

The cast includes Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem, Eve Ridley as Ruthye, David Krumholtz as Zor-El (Supergirl's father), Emily Beecham as Supergirl's mother, and Jason Momoa, reprising his role as Lobo within the newly established DC Universe.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow follows James Gunn's Superman: Legacy, slated for release this summer, as the second film in the rebooted DC Universe. Other projects in development include The Batman Part II (its connection to the Gunn-led universe remains uncertain) and a rumored Clayface film from Mike Flanagan.
