No Snooze? You Lose! SF6 Tournament “Sleep Fighter” Requires You to Rest

A unique Street Fighter 6 tournament, dubbed "Sleep Fighter," is making waves in Japan. This Capcom-backed event, sponsored by SS Pharmaceuticals to promote their sleep aid Drewell, introduces a novel twist: sleep is a key component of competition.

Sleep Points: A New Metric in Esports

This team-based tournament challenges three-player teams in best-of-three matches. Points are awarded for wins, but crucially, teams also earn "Sleep Points" based on their collective sleep.

In the week leading up to the August 31st event, each team member must log at least six hours of sleep nightly. Teams failing to reach a total of 126 hours will face a five-point penalty for every deficient hour. The team with the highest total sleep time gains the advantage of choosing the tournament's match conditions.

Promoting Sleep Wellness

SS Pharmaceuticals' campaign, "Let's Do the Challenge, Let's Sleep First," highlights the importance of sleep for peak performance. The Sleep Fighter tournament is touted as the first esports competition to penalize insufficient sleep, a groundbreaking approach to player well-being.

The event, held at Ryogoku KFC Hall Tokyo, will be streamed live on YouTube and Twitch for global audiences. Limited in-person attendance (100 lottery winners) will witness top players, including two-time EVO champion Itazan and renowned SF player Dogura, compete. Further broadcast details will be announced on the official tournament website and Twitter (X) account. This tournament promises a unique blend of intense competition and a focus on sleep health.
