EA Sports FC 25 has had a gameplay overhaul

EA Sports FC 25 has faced significant backlash, prompting a substantial "Gameplay Refresh Update." Criticisms extend beyond monetization concerns to encompass technical issues and gameplay mechanics. The update addresses over 50 areas, focusing on core gameplay systems.

Key improvements include adjustments to assists, shooting, goalkeeping, and defensive maneuvers. The update aims to rectify frequent occurrences of defenders inexplicably catching up to ball carriers and to enhance offensive fluidity. AI behavior has been refined, reducing overly aggressive tackles and interceptions, while the effectiveness of crossing passes has been toned down. Player support in familiar roles has been improved, alongside offside detection accuracy during AI offensive runs. Finally, the accuracy of long-range shots has received a slight boost.

Initial reception was overwhelmingly negative, with only 36% of 474 player reviews being positive upon release. This negative sentiment stems from perceived corporate greed, numerous bugs and crashes, and compatibility problems with PlayStation controllers. Furthermore, the game's anti-cheat measures render it incompatible with the Steam Deck.
