Anointing Guide for Path of Exile 2 (PoE 2)

Author : Christian Update : Apr 12,2025

In *Path of Exile 2*, much like its predecessors in the action RPG genre, players have access to a range of methods to enhance their character's power. One such method, anointing, is a bit more complex and can significantly boost your build if used correctly. Here's a comprehensive guide on how to anoint in *Path of Exile 2*.

How To Get Distilled Emotions in Path of Exile 2

Anointing your amulets and Waystones becomes available later in the game, requiring you to collect Distilled Emotions. These are crucial items similar to Blight Oils from the original game and can be found in Delirium Maps. There are ten types of Distilled Emotions: Despair, Disgust, Envy, Fear, Greed, Guilt, Ire, Isolation, Paranoia, and Suffering.

The primary method to obtain Distilled Emotions is by completing Delirium Maps, which reward you with a random assortment of these emotions upon completion. Alternatively, you can acquire them through currency exchange or the trade market. To upgrade your Distilled Emotions, use the Reforging Bench. Combining three of the same type will produce an upgraded version, allowing you to tailor your collection.

For a more challenging route, tackling Simulacrum waves offers a chance to drop Distilled Emotions. However, this method is less efficient and demands a robust build due to the increased difficulty.

How To Anoint Items in Path of Exile 2

Currently, in *Path of Exile 2*'s Early Access, you can anoint Waystones and amulets. To anoint an amulet, select any Distilled Emotion to open the Instilling window. Place the amulet in the center box and then add a Distilled Emotion to each of the three boxes at the bottom. The specific emotions required for the desired anointing ability are detailed in the Passive Skill Tree. Simply hover over a Notable Passive Skill and press alt on a keyboard or R3 on a controller to view these requirements.

The skills you choose to anoint should align with your build, but remember, this effect isn't permanent. You can re-anoint your amulet by following the same process, allowing you to adapt your skills as your build evolves.

Similarly, you can anoint Waystones to increase their difficulty and improve the quality of loot they provide. However, both amulets and Waystones cannot be anointed if they are corrupted.

With this guide, you're equipped to enhance your amulets and challenge yourself with an anointed Waystone, tailoring your experience in *Path of Exile 2* to suit your playstyle.

*Path of Exile 2 is available now on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.*
