Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana presents numerous boss encounters, but the initial challenge awaits players in the form of Dularn, the Creeping Shadow. This first boss fight often proves a significant hurdle, representing a sharp increase in difficulty. However, mastering his attack patterns makes this encounter surprisingly manageable.

How to Defeat Dularn in Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana

The battle commences with Dularn encased in a protective barrier. Direct attacks are ineffective; survival is key until the barrier dissipates. Once the barrier drops, players can unleash a flurry of attacks. Dularn's health varies based on the chosen difficulty setting. While players can retreat to gain strength, defeating Dularn is mandatory to progress.

Avoid proximity to Dularn while his barrier is active, as contact inflicts damage. Players attempting to attack during this phase will likely fail.

Dularn's Sword Attacks

Dularn summons multiple swords to attack. These attacks vary, requiring careful observation and evasion:

  • Descending swords: Swords descend from above, striking directly at the player.
  • X-shaped assault: Swords form an X, then home in on the player.
  • Linear thrust: A straight line of swords advances toward the player.

To counter these homing attacks, circle Dularn widely while the barrier is up. This allows sufficient space to dodge the initial two sword attacks. However, jumping is crucial as a secondary evasion tactic. For the linear thrust, a well-timed jump is essential to avoid damage.

Exploit Dularn's vulnerability when his barrier falls. After taking significant damage, he teleports. Maintain distance upon his reappearance, as he will re-establish his barrier.

Dularn's Energy Blasts

Dularn employs two projectile attacks:

Fireballs

Evade fireballs by weaving through them or jumping over individual projectiles. Combining movement and jumping maximizes evasion.

Arching Slash

This large blue energy slash leaves no openings; only a well-timed jump provides avoidance. This attack often precedes Dularn's vulnerability window, signaling an opportunity to inflict damage.

Understanding attack patterns is paramount; grinding for higher levels isn't necessary to overcome this boss.

Rewards for Vanquishing Dularn in Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana

Victory over Dularn grants access to the Ignis Bracelet, a magical bracelet enabling fireball attacks, a valuable addition to the player's arsenal.
