Vay's 16-Bit JRPG Classic Reborn on Android
SoMoGa Inc. has released an updated version of Vay for Android, iOS, and Steam. This classic 16-bit RPG, originally released in Japan in 1993 on the Sega CD, receives a modern makeover with enhanced graphics, a streamlined user interface, and controller support. Previously re-released on iOS in 2008, this revitalized edition retains the original spirit while adding significant improvements.
This revamped Vay boasts over 100 enemies, a dozen challenging bosses, and exploration across 90 diverse areas. A key feature is adjustable difficulty levels, catering to various player preferences. Furthermore, an auto-save function and Bluetooth controller compatibility enhance gameplay convenience. Character progression involves acquiring new equipment, learning spells, and utilizing an AI system for autonomous combat.
The narrative unfolds in a distant galaxy, scarred by a millennia-old interstellar war. A malfunctioning war machine crashes onto the technologically underdeveloped planet Vay, causing widespread destruction. The player embarks on a quest to rescue their abducted wife, a journey interwoven with the larger struggle to halt the war machines' destructive rampage. This epic adventure begins on the player's wedding day, setting the stage for a thrilling journey across the world.
Vay's compelling storyline blends nostalgic charm with modern sensibilities. It faithfully adheres to JRPG conventions, featuring experience point accumulation and gold acquisition through random encounters. The game includes nearly ten minutes of animated cutscenes, available in both English and Japanese audio.
