As you delve deeper into the world of *Avowed*, you'll inevitably face more challenging foes. To maintain your edge in combat, upgrading your weapons and armor to match or exceed the level of these enemies is crucial. Here's a comprehensive guide on how to upgrade your gear in *Avowed*.

Where to Upgrade Weapons and Armor in Avowed

In *Avowed*, the hub for upgrading your weapons and armor is the Workbench, as shown in the image above. Upgrades require specific materials, which vary depending on the type and Quality of the item you're enhancing. While most materials can be easily found or crafted within the game world, advancing a weapon or piece of armor from one Quality to another demands increasingly rare forms of Adra.

Workbenches are conveniently located at Party Camps, which you can establish near any Adra Waystone you discover in the game world. To set up a Party Camp, simply interact with an Adra Waystone and choose the option to establish a camp. Once established, these locations will be marked on your map with a tent icon, allowing for easy fast travel to these upgrade stations.

How Weapon and Armor Leveling Works in Avowed

In *Avowed*, the power level of weapons and armor is determined by two factors: Quality and additional upgrades. The Quality of an item is categorized by a numerical value, color rarity, and an adjective, which directly correlates to the strength of enemies in the Living Lands. Lower Quality items (indicated by a lower numerical value and color rarity) will be less effective against higher-level enemies.

When your gear's Quality is lower than that of the enemies you're facing, you'll find your weapons dealing less damage and your armor offering less protection. However, there's a bonus when using gear of the same or higher Quality against enemies, making it essential to keep your gear upgraded in line with enemy progression. The different Quality levels in *Avowed* are as follows:

  • Common Quality – Green, Level I
  • Fine Quality – Blue, Level II
  • Exceptional – Purple, Level III
  • Superb – Red, Level IV
  • Legendary – Gold, Level V

Within each Quality level, you can further enhance your weapons and armor through three additional upgrade tiers, marked as +0 through +3. These upgrades incrementally improve the stats of your gear, though they are less impactful than changing the Quality. All three additional upgrades must be completed before you can transition to a higher Quality.

Avowed Weapon and Armor Additional Upgrades Explained

The additional upgrades within each Quality level (+0 to +3) provide a modest but important boost to your gear's stats. While these upgrades don't match the significant improvements of advancing to a higher Quality, they are a vital part of maintaining your combat effectiveness.

Which Weapons and Armor Should You Upgrade in Avowed?

Beyond Quality and additional upgrades, *Avowed* categorizes weapons and armor into standard and Unique types. Standard gear is widely available throughout the world, either as loot or for purchase from Merchants. In contrast, Unique gear consists of named, special items often obtained through Main or Side Quests, dropped by bosses or bounties, or occasionally sold by certain Merchants.

Unique gear can be upgraded to the highest Legendary Quality, while standard gear typically tops out at Superb. Additionally, Unique items come with special bonuses and perks not found on standard gear. Therefore, it's advisable to focus your resources on upgrading Unique weapons and armor, using standard gear as temporary equipment until you can acquire and enhance Unique items. Standard gear can be sold to Merchants for Skeyt or dismantled for materials to upgrade your Unique gear.

With this guide, you're now equipped to effectively upgrade your weapons and armor in *Avowed*, ensuring you're always ready for the battles ahead.
