Romance Plots Teased for Avowed Game

Obsidian's Avowed, now available in early access, has players exploring the Living Lands and encountering magical items, perilous situations, and surprisingly, romantic possibilities.

Prior to release, Obsidian stated Avowed wouldn't include a dedicated romance system, instead prioritizing the development of "thoughtful relationships" with companions. Avowed Game Director Carrie Patel explained in an IGN interview: "We are building thoughtful relationships with our companion characters," she stated. "While I personally favor offering romance as an option, it requires significant commitment to ensure it feels authentic to the character and provides an engaging player experience. Therefore, it's not a feature in Avowed, but I wouldn't rule it out for future titles."

However, early access players and reviewers are reporting at least one companion, Kai, demonstrates romantic interest in the player character. Significant spoilers regarding Kai's interactions follow. Proceed with caution.
