A Massive 500,000+ Player Base
A Weekend of Record-Breaking Launches
The weekend saw two phenomenal game launches, each attracting over 500,000 players on their respective launch days. Marvel Rivals, a free-to-play team-based PVP arena shooter, debuted on December 6th, followed by Path of Exile 2's Early Access release on December 7th.
Path of Exile 2's Early Access launch was exceptionally strong, peaking at 578,569 concurrent players on Steam alone. This is a remarkable achievement for a paid Early Access title. Twitch viewership for the game surpassed 1 million on launch day. The game's popularity even briefly overwhelmed SteamDB, the database site tracking Steam statistics, leading to a humorous statement from SteamDB acknowledging the issue.
Even before launch, Path of Exile 2 had already sold over 1 million copies, a number that rapidly increased in the hours leading up to release. The massive influx of players purchasing Early Access passes forced a last-minute database upgrade by the development team to handle the unprecedented traffic. Despite server expansions, players still experienced disconnections, login issues, and lengthy queues, highlighting the immense anticipation surrounding the game's release.
