PlayStation Productions Unveils Ambitious Slate of Game Adaptations at CES 2025

PlayStation Productions made a splash at CES 2025, announcing a wave of new video game adaptations slated for release in 2025 and beyond. The announcements, made on January 7th, 2025, included anime, film, and television projects.

New Adaptations Announced:

• Ghost of Tsushima: Legends (Anime): A new anime series based on the Ghost of Tsushima multiplayer mode, Legends, is in production with Crunchyroll and Aniplex, set for exclusive premiere on Crunchyroll in 2027. Takanobu Mizumo will direct, with Gen Urobuchi handling story composition. Sony Music will contribute to the soundtrack.

• Horizon Zero Dawn (Film): Sony Pictures will produce a film adaptation of Horizon Zero Dawn.

• Helldivers 2 (Film): Columbia Pictures will handle the film adaptation of Helldivers 2.

• Until Dawn (Film): A film adaptation of Until Dawn is set for release on April 25, 2025.

• The Last of Us Season Two (TV): Neil Druckmann revealed a new trailer for season two of The Last of Us, adapting elements from The Last of Us Part II and introducing characters like Abby and Dina.

Past Successes and Ongoing Projects:

PlayStation Productions has a track record of successful video game adaptations, including the Uncharted film (2022) starring Tom Holland and the Gran Turismo film (2023). While earlier adaptations like Resident Evil and Silent Hill had mixed critical reception, they performed well at the box office.

The Twisted Metal series (2023) on Peacock, though less critically acclaimed than The Last of Us, completed production of its second season in late 2024. The release date for season two is yet to be announced.

Further projects in development include films based on Days Gone and a sequel to the Uncharted film, along with a God of War television series.
