Oblivion Remastered Update Causes Visual Glitches; Bethesda Working on Fix
PC players of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered faced unexpected issues following a surprise update released today, but Bethesda has assured that a fix is on the way. The update, rolled out by Virtuos, caught many players off guard as it came without any patch notes or explanation of its purpose.
Yoooo why would @virtuosgames push an update to Oblivion Remastered that removes all upscaling right before the games first weekend?!!?
No DLSS
No FSRRIP playable performance....

Players quickly discovered that the update had significant drawbacks. A Reddit user shared their frustration, stating, "Can't change the upscaling methods anymore. It's set to ‘off’ and while the arrows are clickable nothing happens. So I closed the game, disabled fluid motion in the NVidia app (was testing something before the patch came) and started the game again. Loading times for my save are long again and still can't change upscaling settings lol. Now I am stuck with 40-60 fps in high settings with a 5800X3D and a 5080. Nice patch :D"
While some users reported minimal impact on performance, others experienced severe issues with low frame rates and were unable to access upscaling settings. This comes at a particularly inconvenient time, just before Oblivion Remastered’s first weekend in players’ hands.
AnswerSee ResultsBethesda has since provided an update on their official support page, explaining that the patch was intended to include "a few backend tweaks and nothing directly impacting game play." However, it appears that the update has caused issues particularly for those who purchased Oblivion Remastered through the Microsoft Store, affecting their upscaling and anti-aliasing options.
Bethesda clarified, "Any graphic settings adjusted prior to the Microsoft Store hotfix are still enabled and function normally. However, you will temporarily be unable to adjust those settings due to the issue with the settings UI. The team is taking a look and working out a resolution, we will share more info as soon as we can."
As of now, there is no set timeline for when a fix will be available. Meanwhile, players on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S can continue enjoying the game without any reported issues.
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered was released earlier this week for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X | S. For further insights into Bethesda’s re-release, explore why Bethesda and Virtuos aimed to maintain the jank of the original game and why some players still love it all these years later.
