"Oblivion Remake Details Leak Online"

The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remake, rumored to be in development with a potential release in 2025, has sparked excitement with a leaked list of details surfacing online. According to Mp1st, these details emerged from a former employee at Virtuos, a video game support studio. Microsoft has not provided any comments on the matter when approached by IGN.

Reportedly, Virtuos has utilized Unreal Engine 5 to completely remake Bethesda's beloved open-world RPG, suggesting a significant overhaul rather than a simple remaster. The leaks suggest several gameplay modifications, including adjustments to Stamina, Sneak, Blocking, Archery, Hit Reaction, and the user interface's HUD. The changes to Blocking aim to make it more engaging and less frustrating, inspired by action games and Soulslikes. Sneak mechanics have been enhanced with highlighted icons and revamped damage calculations. The difficulty in triggering knockdowns from depleted Stamina has been increased, and the HUD has been streamlined for better clarity. Additionally, hit reactions have been introduced to improve responsiveness, and Archery has been updated for both first and third-person views.

Rumors of an Oblivion remaster first surfaced in 2023, following the leak of documents from the FTC versus Microsoft trial regarding the Activision Blizzard acquisition. These documents, dating back to July 2020, outlined several unannounced Bethesda projects, including an "Oblivion Remaster" slated for financial year 2022. However, the project listed as a remaster may have evolved into a full-blown remake, as suggested by the latest leaks.

The list of projects included:

  • Financial year 2022:

    • Oblivion Remaster
    • Indiana Jones game
  • Financial year 2023:

    • Doom Year Zero and DLC
    • Project Kestrel
    • Project Platinum
  • Financial year 2024:

    • The Elder Scrolls 6
    • Project Kestrel: Expansion
    • Licensed IP Game
    • Fallout 3 Remaster
    • Ghostwire: Tokyo Sequel
    • Dishonored 3
    • DOOM Year Zero DLC

Many of these projects have faced delays or cancellations. For instance, Doom Year Zero has been renamed to Doom: The Dark Ages and is set to launch this year, while Indiana Jones and the Great Circle was released in December 2024. The Elder Scrolls 6 remains far from its projected timeline.

The scope of the Oblivion project may have expanded from a remaster to a remake, a detail we might confirm once Bethesda officially announces it. As for the platforms, with Microsoft's current strategy favoring multiplatform releases and the anticipated launch of the Nintendo Switch 2, the Oblivion remake could potentially be available on PC, Xbox, PlayStation, and the new Nintendo console.

Leaker NateTheHate has suggested that the Oblivion remake might launch in June, aligning with the rumored release window of the Nintendo Switch 2.

Next week, Microsoft's Xbox Developer Direct will feature more details on Doom: The Dark Ages from id Software, a ZeniMax-owned studio. Additionally, Microsoft has hinted at revealing a new game from a mystery developer, which, according to Windows Central’s Jez Corden, is expected to be a new entry in a legendary Japanese IP with a long history, promising to delight many fans. However, it does not appear that this will be the Oblivion remake.
