MultiVersus Teeters on Shutdown as Playerbase Plummets

MultiVersus Season 5: A Last Stand?

Industry insider AusilMV, known for accurate game leaks, suggests that Season 5 of MultiVersus could be its final season if it fails to perform well. A source close to the development team reportedly indicated that the season is a last-ditch attempt to revive the game's flagging popularity. While currently just a rumor, the situation is undeniably precarious.

The game's initial launch in 2022 saw explosive success, peaking at 153,000 concurrent Steam players. However, a dramatic 99% player drop followed shortly after, leading Warner Bros. Games to shut down the project in June 2023, controversially framing it as an "open beta test." A relaunch with updates occurred in May 2024, but the game has yet to recapture its initial momentum.

With Season 5 commencing in early February, the developers face a critical juncture. This season represents a make-or-break opportunity to reignite player interest and potentially avert the game's ultimate demise.

It's important to note that the 2022 release was retroactively labeled a "beta" by the developers, despite its initial popularity and the purchases made by players who bought the premium edition. The subsequent June 2023 shutdown understandably caused significant player dissatisfaction.
