Doom 2099 is a 4-cost, 2-power card with a unique ability: "After each turn, add a DoomBot 2099 to a random location if you played (exactly) 1 card." DoomBot 2099 (also 4-cost, 2-power) provides an ongoing buff: "Ongoing: Your other DoomBots and Doom have +1 Power." This buff affects both DoomBot 2099s and the regular Doctor Doom.

Playing one card per turn maximizes Doom 2099's potential, generating three DoomBot 2099s for a significant power boost. Early deployment or using cards like Magik further amplifies this effect. Effectively, Doom 2099 can function as a 17-power card, or even more with strategic play.

However, Doom 2099 has weaknesses. Random DoomBot placement can hinder your strategy, and Enchantress completely negates their power.

Best Doctor Doom 2099 Decks

Doom 2099's one-card-per-turn requirement revitalizes Spectrum-based Ongoing decks. Here's a strong example:

Ant-Man, Goose, Psylocke, Captain America, Cosmo, Electro, Doom 2099, Wong, Klaw, Doctor Doom, Spectrum, Onslaught [Untapped Deck Link]

This budget-friendly deck (only Doom 2099 is a Series 5 card) offers flexibility. Early Doom 2099 deployment via Psylocke or Electro creates a powerful board state. Alternatively, it can shift to a strategy centered around regular Doctor Doom and Spectrum buffs if early Doom 2099 placement fails. Cosmo protects key cards from Enchantress.

Another effective deck utilizes a Patriot strategy:

Ant-Man, Zabu, Dazzler, Mister Sinister, Patriot, Brood, Doom 2099, Super Skrull, Iron Lad, Blue Marvel, Doctor Doom, Spectrum [Untapped Deck Link]

This similarly inexpensive deck uses early-game cards like Mister Sinister and Brood before transitioning to Doom 2099, Blue Marvel, and Doctor Doom. Zabu discounts 4-cost cards for early play if Patriot's effect is missed. Flexibility is key; you can forgo a DoomBot 2099 to play two 3-cost cards on the final turn, creating powerful combinations. Note that this deck is vulnerable to Enchantress, prompting the inclusion of Super Skrull as a counter to other Doom 2099 decks.

Is Doctor Doom 2099 Worth the Investment?

While Daken and Miek (released alongside Doom 2099) are weak, Doom 2099 himself is a worthwhile addition. His power and deck-building accessibility make him a meta-defining card. Prioritize using Collector's Tokens if available, but don't hesitate to acquire him. He's predicted to be one of the game's best cards, barring nerfs.
