A Marvel Rivals Player Created a Playable Doctor Octopus Concept and Fans Love It

NetEase Games' commitment to releasing a new Marvel Rivals hero every half-season hasn't stifled creativity within the player base. A Reddit user, WickedCube, recently captivated the r/MarvelRivals community with a compelling 30-second gameplay video showcasing a playable Doctor Octopus.

The video, initially appearing to depict a pre-Hulk Bruce Banner in a testing environment, reveals a surprisingly polished, fan-made Doctor Octopus. This eight-armed marvel, clearly inspired by the game's mechanics, offers a unique take on the classic Spider-Man villain. The character's movement, while slightly rough around the edges, is impressively fluid, utilizing magnetized arms to navigate obstacles and essentially "fly" near stable structures – a clever adaptation to the game's destructible environments. The concept even includes named abilities: Havoc Claw (melee) and Wrecking Grip (ranged). With over 16,000 upvotes, the creation is a testament to WickedCube's skill and ingenuity.

WickedCube's inspiration stemmed from a desire to address the game's need for more Vanguard characters (tanks) and the unique challenge of implementing Doctor Octopus's tentacles in a 3D environment. A recent PSN outage and inspiring fan art provided the final push.

"It all started when PSN was down," WickedCube explains. "I saw some cool Doc Ock fan art and thought, 'Why not make it myself?'"

The overwhelmingly positive response has encouraged WickedCube to share his process. He plans to release a playable version and share his creation via a YouTube tutorial series and open-source code on GitHub.

NetEase's official mid-season update, launching February 21st, will feature the Human Torch and The Thing, continuing the impressive post-launch momentum. While NetEase hasn't confirmed Doc Ock's inclusion, WickedCube's creation highlights the game's limitless potential and the passionate community driving its evolution. He's already brainstorming future projects, with Nightcrawler and Professor X on his list. The success of his Doc Ock prototype underscores the game's strong foundation and the potential for community-driven content.
