Koei Tecmo's latest Three Kingdoms title, Three Kingdoms Heroes, blends chess and shogi mechanics for a unique mobile experience. Players command historical figures, each boasting distinct abilities and strategic options, in turn-based board battles.

The Three Kingdoms era, a rich tapestry of heroism and intrigue, has consistently inspired interactive entertainment. Koei Tecmo, a veteran in this space, delivers a fresh take with Three Kingdoms Heroes, potentially the most accessible entry point yet for newcomers. The game retains the series' signature art style and epic storytelling, but introduces a compelling twist.

The standout feature, however, is the GARYU AI system. Launching January 25th, this AI, developed by HEROZ (creators of the champion dlshogi shogi AI), promises a challenging and adaptive opponent. GARYU's track record—consecutive wins at the World Shogi Championships—speaks volumes about its potential.

While AI boasts can be overblown (recall the Deep Blue controversy), the prospect of facing a truly lifelike, strategically adept opponent in a game centered around historical military cunning is undeniably appealing. GARYU alone makes Three Kingdoms Heroes a compelling addition to the franchise.
