inZOI Lets You \"WooHoo\" Sims-Style To Make Children But Obviously Won't Show It
inZOI's "WooHoo" Feature: A Closer Look at the Game's Approach to Explicit Content
inZOI, soon to enter early access, has generated considerable fan curiosity regarding its depiction of mature themes. Developers recently addressed these concerns in a "Ask Me (almost) Anything" session on the game's Discord server. Here's a breakdown of their responses, translated by inZOI Assistant Director Joel Lee:
A Subtle Approach to Intimacy:
The developers confirmed the existence of a feature allowing character interaction leading to childbirth, similar to the "WooHoo" mechanic in The Sims. However, the visual representation is deliberately understated. Lee explained that the scene is implied rather than explicitly shown, leaving much to the player's imagination. The goal is to create a suggestive experience without graphic detail.
Technical Challenges with Blurring:
The decision to avoid explicit visuals is partly due to technical limitations. The developers found that blurring effects, common in games with a cartoony aesthetic like The Sims, clashed with inZOI's more realistic art style. The blurring appeared more suggestive than intended, leading to the current approach. Additionally, a bug during testing revealed unblurred reflections, highlighting the challenges of implementing such effects effectively.
Broader Appeal and ESRB Rating:
Despite the suggestive nature of some features, inZOI has received a T for Teen rating from the ESRB, mirroring The Sims 4. This reflects the developers' commitment to creating a game accessible to a broad audience while maintaining a safe-for-work experience. Lee emphasized their desire to make the game available to players of all ages.
