FF7 Rebirth DLC: Fan Demand to Spur Development
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth PC Version: No DLC Planned, But Modders Welcome (With a Caveat)
The director of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Naoki Hamaguchi, recently shed light on the game's PC release, addressing both the possibility of DLC and the modding community. Read on for the details.
DLC: Fan Demand is Key
While the development team initially considered adding episodic DLC to the PC version of FF7 Rebirth, resource constraints led them to prioritize completing the final installment of the trilogy. Hamaguchi stated that adding new content isn't currently planned, but he's open to player feedback. Substantial player demand could sway the decision. "If we receive strong requests from players after the release regarding certain matters, we would like to consider them," he noted.
A Message to Modders
Hamaguchi extended a welcome to the modding community, acknowledging the inevitable influx of player-created content. While official mod support isn't included, he appealed for responsible modding: "We respect the creativity of the modding community and welcome their creations—though we ask modders not to create or install anything offensive or inappropriate."
This request is understandable given the potential for inappropriate content to proliferate online. The modding community's contributions can significantly enhance gaming experiences, but maintaining a positive and respectful environment is crucial.
PC Version Enhancements
The PC version boasts graphical improvements, addressing previous concerns. Lighting rendering has been refined to mitigate the "uncanny valley" effect, and higher-resolution 3D models and textures are available for powerful systems. However, adapting the mini-games for PC proved challenging, requiring unique key configuration settings.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, the second chapter in the Remake trilogy, initially launched on PS5 on February 9, 2024, to widespread acclaim. The PC version arrives on January 23, 2025, via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
