Bloodlines 2: Dev Diary Unveils Key Mechanics
The Chinese Room studio has recently unveiled a new development diary for Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2, packed with exciting gameplay footage. In this update, the developers showcased how players will engage in the thrilling act of hunting as a vampire within the game.
In the Vampire: The Masquerade universe, vampires adhere to the Masquerade, a strict code that mandates keeping their supernatural nature concealed from the mortal world. This principle is intricately woven into Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 through a Masquerade meter, which monitors actions that could jeopardize the secrecy of the vampire community.
Should a player breach the Masquerade, they will encounter three distinct indicators on the eye icon at the top of the screen, each represented by a different color:
- Green: Indicates a minor violation. Simply hiding is sufficient to mitigate the issue.
- Yellow: Signals that the player has committed multiple infractions, fed, or used aggressive powers. At this stage, players must deal with witnesses or avoid drawing excessive attention from law enforcement.
- Red: Marks a severe breach of the Masquerade, triggering a police chase. The best course of action is to flee and hide, as the Camarilla will intervene once the meter is fully filled, as demonstrated in the gameplay clip.
To mitigate their "infamy," players have several strategies at their disposal: they can manipulate witnesses to forget what they've seen or take more drastic measures by eliminating them. If the police become involved, the most straightforward solution is to hide and wait for the situation to de-escalate.
The developers have assured that the risk of exposing the vampire existence will escalate as the game progresses. To maintain the Masquerade, players must act swiftly and decisively, ensuring their actions align with the secretive nature of their kind.
