Recent Windows 11 Update Disrupts Assassin's Creed Gameplay; Patches Now Available

Following a Windows 11 update (24H2), several players encountered issues launching or playing Assassin's Creed titles. Fortunately, Ubisoft has released patches addressing this problem for Assassin's Creed Origins and Assassin's Creed Valhalla. These updates are automatically applied through Steam, requiring approximately 230 MB and 500 MB of storage space respectively.

While this resolves the issue for two titles, reports indicate that problems persist in other Ubisoft games, notably Assassin's Creed Odyssey. This game may remain unresponsive or fail to launch entirely. Although previous patches addressed similar problems for Star Wars: Outlaws and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, some performance issues may remain. Players are advised to postpone updating to Windows 11 24H2 until a fix for Odyssey is available.

The Windows 11 24H2 update, despite introducing features like Wi-Fi 7 support and AI Copilot+, inadvertently caused compatibility problems. While the majority of games appear unaffected, the initial reports of these issues emerged five months before the update's official release, raising concerns about insufficient pre-release testing. This is particularly concerning given Microsoft's push for Windows 10 users to upgrade to Windows 11.
