Assassin's Creed Shadows' First DLC, "Claws of Awaji," Leaks on Steam

A Steam leak has revealed details about "Claws of Awaji," the first downloadable content (DLC) for the upcoming Assassin's Creed Shadows. This expansion, set in feudal Japan, promises a significant amount of new content.

Assassin's Creed Shadows, the first game in the franchise to be set in Japan, features dual protagonists: Yasuke, a Samurai, and Naoe, a Shinobi. The game's development has been challenging, facing setbacks including criticism and multiple delays. The latest delay pushed the release date to March 20, 2025.

The leaked information, originating from a now-deleted Steam update, according to Insider Gaming, details "Claws of Awaji." This DLC reportedly introduces a new region to explore, a fresh weapon type to master, along with new skills, gear, and abilities. It's also claimed to add over 10 hours of gameplay to the main game. Pre-ordering the game will reportedly grant access to both the Claws of Awaji DLC and a bonus mission.

Delayed Release and Ubisoft's Uncertain Future

The leak follows another delay announcement for Assassin's Creed Shadows. Initially slated for November 15, 2024, the release was first pushed to February 14, 2025, and then again to March 20, 2025, to allow for further polishing.

This delay comes as Ubisoft, the game's publisher, faces uncertainty amid rumors of a potential Tencent acquisition. This follows a period of mixed success for the company, with several high-profile titles receiving less-than-stellar reception and failing to meet sales targets.
