Hnefatafl is an ancient Scandinavian board game with variants played across medieval Europe, predating chess. These Tafl games feature two armies of differing sizes. The invading black army aims to capture the white king, while the white army defends and attempts the king's escape. Often called the Game of the Vikings, Hnefatafl evokes historical narratives, from Muscovite invasions of Sweden to Viking raids on Britain. The core remains constant: the king's pursuit. Despite simple rules, the game offers deep strategic possibilities and rewards tactical prowess. Surround enemies, plan ahead, set traps, and force surrender. Will you capture the king for glory? What's New in Version 3.91 (Last updated Nov 24, 2022)

Long-pressing (or right-clicking) an offline match in the main menu now allows renaming matches. Added an option to always display remaining time in online matches with timeouts (previously only for quick matches). Updated translations. The ignore button now functions when searching for online opponents. The "Next Match" button now respects the selected online match order.
