Xbox Series X|S Game Rankings: Ultimate Tier Guide
Microsoft's Xbox Developer Direct has set a positive tone for 2025, showcasing the strength of its first-party studios. But which Xbox game franchises truly resonate with players? Which series delivered the most enjoyment during the Xbox 360 era? And for those new to Xbox, which titles are most anticipated on platforms like PlayStation, given Microsoft's apparent commitment to broader game availability?
The choices are plentiful, especially considering Microsoft's acquisitions of Bethesda and Activision Blizzard. This tier list encompasses any franchise associated with Xbox, Bethesda, and Activision Blizzard, provided it includes more than one game – apologies to MachineGames' Indiana Jones! A sequel would certainly change that. Note: This isn't an exhaustive list of every Xbox game series, but aims to cover significant current and historically impactful franchises.
Below is a personal tier list, reflecting personal enjoyment over the years:
Doom easily earns an S-tier ranking for me. The recent entries are among my favorite first-person shooters, and Doom: The Dark Ages suggests id Software is maintaining its high standards. Forza Horizon also secures an S-tier spot; arguably, outside of Burnout 3 and Burnout Revenge, they're the best racing games I've played. The A-tier placement of Halo might surprise some. While Halo 2 and 3 boast exceptional campaigns, I can't overlook recent inconsistencies preventing a higher ranking. Personally, I'm a bigger Fallout fan than Elder Scrolls; power armor trumps dragons, in my opinion.
Disagree? Believe Gears of War is Xbox's finest? A staunch defender of Fuzion Frenzy? Feel free to create your own tier list and compare your S, A, B, C, and D rankings with the IGN community.
