Wuthering Waves' Studio Gains Tencent Investment
Tencent's strategic acquisition of a 51% controlling stake in Kuro Games, the developer behind the popular action RPG Wuthering Waves, significantly strengthens its position in the gaming industry. This follows earlier March rumors, solidifying Tencent's majority ownership by acquiring a 37% share from Hero Entertainment.
Kuro Games has reassured its employees that its operational independence will remain intact, mirroring Tencent's approach with other prominent studios like Riot Games and Supercell. This ensures creative autonomy while leveraging Tencent's substantial resources. The acquisition is consistent with Tencent's extensive investment portfolio, which includes stakes in major players such as Ubisoft, Activision Blizzard, and FromSoftware.
Wuthering Waves, already enjoying success with its ongoing Version 1.4 update (featuring the Somnoire: Illusive Realms mode, new characters, weapons, and upgrades), is poised for even greater growth. The upcoming Version 2.0 update promises the introduction of the Rinascita nation, new characters (Carlotta and Roccia), and a highly anticipated PlayStation 5 launch, expanding its reach across major platforms.
Tencent's investment provides Kuro Games with enhanced long-term stability, paving the way for future expansion and further development of Wuthering Waves and subsequent projects. The influx of resources ensures a brighter future for the studio and its acclaimed title.
