New World of Warcraft Video Explains Feast of Winter Veil Lore

World of Warcraft's Feast of Winter Veil: A Lore-Filled Holiday Celebration

The annual World of Warcraft Feast of Winter Veil event, mirroring real-world Christmas celebrations, returns with fresh rewards and seasonal items. A new lore video, a collaboration with PlatinumWoW, unveils the rich history behind this beloved in-game holiday.

This engaging video explores the holiday's origins, weaving together Dwarven myths featuring Greatfather Winter – a Titan-forged giant who brings the snow – and Tauren traditions emphasizing spiritual renewal and gratitude to the Earthmother. The video also highlights the rise of Smokeywood Pastures, a Goblin enterprise that has commercialized Winter Veil, drawing parallels to modern-day Christmas traditions.

A History of Winter Veil Shenanigans

No exploration of Winter Veil lore would be complete without mentioning Metzen the Reindeer, named after former Warcraft creative director Chris Metzen. This unfortunate reindeer has endured three separate kidnappings: by pirates and Dark Iron Dwarves in Classic WoW, and later by the Grinch in the current iteration of the game. The video concludes with a humorous nod to this recurring theme, featuring Metzen the Reindeer expressing gratitude in Thrall's voice (a fitting tribute, given Metzen's voice acting role).

This marks another successful collaboration between World of Warcraft and PlatinumWoW, following previous lore videos covering topics like Nerubians, Vrykul, the Scourge, World Trees, Blackrock Depths, and seasonal events. Blizzard’s recent partnerships with various content creators, including Taliesin & Evitel and Hurricane, have significantly enriched the World of Warcraft experience.

Players can still partake in the Feast of Winter Veil festivities until January 5th, 2024. Hunters can tame the Dreaming Festive Reindeer, while all players can acquire new holiday transmogs and the Grunch pet. Don't forget to check under the virtual tree in Orgrimmar or Stormwind for a special Winter Veil gift – much like last year's Junior Timekeeper's Racing Belt toy.
