Travis Willingham: Critical Role Video Game Announcement Imminent

Author : Caleb Update : Mar 26,2025

The beloved Dungeons & Dragons show, Critical Role, is on the cusp of unveiling its first major video game, with CEO Travis Willingham hinting that an announcement could come "any day." This exciting news was shared during an interview with Business Insider. Although details such as the game's title and its precise connection to the Critical Role universe remain under wraps, Willingham assured that the development team is diligently working on the project.

Willingham, who is not only an actor but also one of Critical Role's prominent stars, co-founded the company with other well-known voice actors including Liam O'Brien, Marisha Ray, Sam Riegel, Ashley Johnson, Laura Bailey, and Matthew Mercer. Since its launch, Critical Role has expanded into a vast universe, notably through its successful Amazon Prime Video series, Critical Role: The Legend of Vox Machina.

The upcoming video game is designed to stand alongside Critical Role's other ventures, yet it may not directly tie into them. Willingham described the game as an interactive experience where players can "get their hands on the stick and control the outcome of the story," potentially impacting both beloved characters and introducing new elements within the world of Exandria.

In a December 2024 interview with Rolling Stone, Willingham mentioned that the team was in the "active pursuit" of developing this video game spinoff, nearing the end of a multi-year journey. The narrative could either follow one of the group's established campaigns or venture into an original storyline within their expansive universe.

Originally, the team anticipated making an announcement by the end of 2024 or early 2025. As we progress nearly three months into 2025, the anticipation for an imminent announcement grows. Willingham also reflected on their cautious approach to entering the interactive space, noting the industry's volatility and their desire to strategically find their place within it.

While a release date for the Critical Role video game has yet to be announced, fans can stay engaged with the franchise by checking out the first details on The Legend of Vox Machina Season 4.
