Following God of War Ragnarok's recent PC Steam launch, the game has received a 'mixed' user score rating. Numerous fans have been review-bombing God of War Ragnarok on Steam in response to Sony's unpopular PlayStation Network (PSN) Account requirement to play the game. Having recently launched for the PC last week, God of War Ragnarok currently holds a 6/10 rating on the platform.
Sony announced that God of War Ragnarok requires a PSN account to play the single-player action-adventure title on PC, which surprised many fans and seemingly prompted the recent negative review-bombing of the game on the platform.
While players submitted negative reviews, some noted they could play the game without linking a PSN account. One player wrote, "I understand why people are upset about the PlayStation account requirement. It's frustrating when developers add online features to a single-player game. But I don't understand it because I played fine without logging in. It's unfortunate because those reviews will deter people from an incredible game."
"PSN account mandate dampens enthusiasm, launched the game and even logged in but it freezes on the Black screen, didn't play the game but it shows I played it for 1 hour 40 minutes, how absurd," another player remarked in their Steam review. However, despite the negative response, some players have posted positive reviews, stating they enjoyed the experience and attributing the negative feedback solely to Sony's decision. "Good story as expected. Players are posting negative reviews primarily due to PSN. Sony needs to address this issue. Otherwise the game is excellent on PC," one player commented.
Sony encountered a similar issue with Helldivers 2 recently when a PSN account was needed to play the Arrowhead Game Studios shooter. Subsequently, Sony reversed its decision after significant negative feedback and removed Helldiver's 2 PSN account linking requirement.
