Star Wars Movie From Deadpool & Wolverine Director Could Star Ryan Gosling

Author : Aria Update : Apr 06,2025

Exciting news for Star Wars fans: Shawn Levy, the director behind Deadpool & Wolverine, is reportedly gearing up to venture into the galaxy far, far away, and he's bringing Ryan Gosling along for the ride. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Levy's Star Wars project has entered negotiations with Ryan Gosling to star in the upcoming film. Levy has been developing this movie since 2022, with a script in the works since last year. He's collaborating once again with Jonathan Tropper, the writer behind This Is Where I Leave You and The Adam Project, both of which Levy directed.

Details about Levy's Star Wars movie remain under wraps, with no information yet on who Gosling might play or the specific era in Star Wars history it will explore. The only known aspect of the story is that it will be unrelated to the Skywalker Saga. The Hollywood Reporter also notes that it's intended to be a standalone film, suggesting it won't be part of a trilogy.

Ryan Gosling's involvement has accelerated the project's timeline. Originally, Levy was set to direct a boy band movie starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. However, if Gosling officially joins the film, production on this Star Wars movie will be prioritized and become Levy's next project, with filming set to begin in the fall.

Star Wars is currently navigating a transitional phase. Following the cancellation of The Acolyte, Disney Plus premiered its latest Star Wars series, Skeleton Crew, which recently aired its final episode. On the film front, Dave Filoni's The Mandalorian and Grogu movie completed production in December and is slated for release on May 22, 2026. Additionally, a new trilogy of films centered on Daisy Ridley's Rey from the sequel trilogy is in the works.

No release date has been announced yet for Levy's Star Wars movie, should it move forward this year. For a comprehensive look at what's coming to the Star Wars universe, check out our preview of Star Wars in 2025.
