Nintendo has officially announced the conclusion of regular content updates for Splatoon 3. However, the beloved shooter isn't completely abandoned. Holiday events like Splatoween and Frosty Fest will continue, along with ongoing monthly challenges and necessary weapon balance patches.
The official Twitter (X) announcement stated: "After 2 INK-credible years of Splatoon 3, regular updates will conclude. However, Splatoween, Frosty Fest, Spring Fest, and Summer Nights will return! Weapon adjustments and balance patches will be released as needed. Big Run, Eggstra Work, and Monthly Challenges will continue."
This news follows the September 16th Grand Festival, Splatoon 3's final major Splatfest event. A commemorative video showcased past Splatfests and featured the Deep Cut trio. Nintendo's closing message was a heartfelt "Thanks for holding down the Splatlands with us—it's been a blast!"Launched two years ago on September 9th, Splatoon 3's shift away from active development has reignited rumors of a sequel, Splatoon 4.
Intriguing in-game details spotted during the Grand Festival, potentially hinting at a new game location, have fueled the speculation. Some fans believe these locations preview a new city in a future Splatoon game. Others remain unconvinced, suggesting the locations are simply variations of existing areas.
While no official announcement regarding Splatoon 4 exists, rumors have persisted for months. Previous reports suggested Nintendo initiated development of the next Splatoon title for the Switch. The Grand Festival, serving as Splatoon 3's final major Splatfest, further strengthens fan belief in an imminent Splatoon 4 release.
Historically, Splatoon's Final Fests have influenced subsequent sequels. Splatoon 3's "Past, Present, or Future" theme could foreshadow a similar narrative direction for Splatoon 4. However, until Nintendo makes an official announcement, fans remain in a state of eager anticipation.
