Sony Says You Won't Have to Link a PSN Account to Play Some of Its PC Games Anymore

Author : Andrew Update : Mar 03,2025

Sony is dropping the PlayStation Network (PSN) account requirement for several of its PC games, starting with Marvel's Spider-Man 2. This follows player feedback regarding the previous mandatory linking. Games affected include Marvel's Spider-Man 2, The Last of Us Part II Remastered, God of War Ragnarök, and Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered. The impact on other single-player PC titles remains unclear.

However, Sony isn't abandoning its online ecosystem entirely. Connecting a PSN account will now unlock in-game bonuses, such as early suits in Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and resource packs for God of War Ragnarök. These incentives are designed to encourage PC players to join the PlayStation Network. A full list of current PC incentives is provided below:

PlayStation in-game content incentives on PC:

  • Marvel’s Spider-Man 2: Early unlock of the Spider-Man 2099 Black Suit and the Miles Morales 2099 Suit.
  • God of War Ragnarök: Access to the Armor of the Black Bear set (previously only available in New Game+) and a resource bundle (500 Hacksilver and 250 XP).
  • The Last of Us Part II Remastered: +50 points to activate bonus features and unlock extras, including Jordan’s Jacket skin for Ellie.
  • Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered: Access to the Nora Valiant outfit.

Sony plans to continue collaborating with PlayStation Studios developers to offer more PSN account benefits. Whether other PC games will also drop the PSN requirement remains unannounced. Connecting an account still provides access to features like trophy support and friend management.

The reception to Sony's PC game releases has been mixed. While many appreciate the wider availability of previously console-exclusive titles, the PSN requirement drew criticism, particularly in regions where PSN isn't accessible. This was notably highlighted by the brief, and quickly reversed, PSN requirement for Helldivers 2 on Steam last year.
