Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, the upcoming kart racer from Sega and Sonic Team, promises the largest roster in series history and a host of innovative gameplay mechanics. This article details the exciting new features and the upcoming closed network test.

An Unprecedented Roster of Characters

Featuring iconic characters from the Sonic and Sega universes, the game boasts a confirmed 23 characters at launch, with more to come. The revealed roster includes familiar faces like Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy, alongside fan favorites from Sonic Riders (Jet, Wave, Storm), the Deadly Six (Zavok, Zazz), Team Dark (Shadow, Rouge, E-123 Omega), the Chaotix (Vector, Charmy, Espio), and even Blaze, Silver, Cream, and Big. Dr. Eggman and his creations, Egg Pawn and Metal Sonic, also make an appearance.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds introduces "Travel Rings," a unique mechanic that transports racers between different worlds in real-time. These CrossWorlds offer diverse environments, each with its own theme-park style surprises, including unique obstacles, giant monsters, and stunning scenery. The game features 24 main tracks and 15 distinct CrossWorlds. Inspired by Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, dynamic tracks change throughout each race, demanding constant adaptation from players.

Extensive Customization and High-Octane Action

The game offers unparalleled vehicle customization, allowing players to modify various aspects, including body parts, wheels, colors, tire and cockpit designs, and even the vehicle's glow. Players can also equip their characters with 23 different gadgets to fine-tune their racing style. The return of Extreme Gear from Sonic Riders adds a thrilling hoverboard-based racing option to the mix, providing a unique boost-focused experience. Sonic Creative Officer Takashi Iizuka describes the game as a "great culmination of all the Sonic Racing series games to date."
