Silksong Is Real And Will Release, Reassures PR Manager
Hollow Knight: Silksong continues to progress, as confirmed by Team Cherry's Marketing and PR Manager, Matthew Griffin. Dive deeper into the latest updates and fan speculations surrounding this highly anticipated sequel.
This Is Not A Joke, Silksong Is Real
Confirmed By Team Cherry’s Griffin
Following recent rumors sparked by a seemingly innocuous cake-themed social media post, Hollow Knight fans can breathe a sigh of relief. Team Cherry’s Marketing and Publishing Head, Matthew "Leth" Griffin, took to X (formerly Twitter) to reassure fans that Silksong is indeed real and actively in development. This statement was in response to a fan's plea for confirmation amidst swirling rumors.
The speculation began when Hollow Knight co-creator William Pellen changed his X profile picture to a cake, which fans interpreted as a potential clue about Silksong. This led to theories about an alternate reality game (ARG) or an announcement for the Nintendo Switch 2. However, YouTuber fireb0rn, after reaching out to Griffin, clarified that Pellen's tweet was merely a harmless change, humorously dubbed as "a nothingburger." Fireb0rn apologized for any confusion, tweeting, "Apologies to have misled everyone. The cake was a lie."
Despite the cake debacle, Griffin provided a crucial update, stating, "Yes the game is real, progressing and will release." This marks the first significant update from Team Cherry in over a year and a half, providing reassurance to the eager fanbase.
Silksong’s Six-Year-Long History
First announced in February 2019, Silksong was originally expected to launch in the first half of 2023. However, in May 2023, Team Cherry announced a delay, citing the game's expanded scope and their desire to enhance the final product. Silksong promises to transport players to a new kingdom, introduce nearly 150 new enemies, and include a challenging new difficulty mode called Silk Soul. As we approach the two-year mark since the delay, this recent update, though brief, breaks the long silence from the developers.
The response to the update has been mixed. Some fans expressed gratitude for the update and encouraged Team Cherry to take their time, emphasizing that quality should not be rushed. Others, however, voiced frustration after nearly six years of waiting, feeling that the update provided the "bare minimum" information about the eagerly awaited title.
Hollow Knight: Silksong is slated for release on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One. Players will follow Hornet, the princess-protector of Hallownest, on her perilous journey through an unknown world to reach the kingdom's peak. Although no specific release window has been announced, fans should stay tuned for more updates and announcements.
