Shrek 5 has unveiled its all-new cast along with a brand-new teaser trailer, and even Movie Sonic is unsure about Shrek's new appearance. In a humorous video posted on TikTok, the Sonic Movie account offered "advice for green ogres," showcasing Movie Sonic's transformation from his initial, much-criticized live-action design to the well-received revised version introduced months later.

IGN had the exclusive first look at the live-action Sonic the Hedgehog: The Movie back in 2018, and the feedback was notably mixed, with fans particularly vocal about the character's teeth, physique, small eyes, and human-like fingers.

In response to the backlash, director Jeff Fowler decided to revise the controversial design of the iconic character, promising a more authentic portrayal. The redesign was much better received by fans and critics alike.

While the response to Shrek's new look hasn't been as divisive as Sonic's initial live-action debut, Sonic's playful reaction has certainly entertained his fanbase. One fan commented, "You know it's bad when you see the Sonic Movie account giving Shrek 5 advice," while another exclaimed, "No way they actually posted this" accompanied by a crying emoji.

The fifth installment of the Shrek series was originally announced in 2016, but updates were scarce until Chris Meledandri, CEO of animation studio Illumination, announced its active development in 2023. Alongside Shrek 5, there are hopes for a Donkey spin-off. Universal Pictures has postponed the release of Shrek 5 to December 23, 2026, and slotted the Despicable 3 spin-off, Minions 3, into its original release date.
