Unlocking the Secrets of the Pokemon GO Tour Pass: Free and Deluxe Editions Explained

Many Pokemon GO players are buzzing about the newly introduced Tour Pass, especially its surprising free version. This guide breaks down what the Tour Pass offers, how to earn points, and the benefits of the paid Deluxe version.

What is the Pokemon GO Tour Pass?

Debuting with the Pokemon GO Tour: Unova global event (February 24th, 10 AM local time), the Tour Pass is a system of completing in-game tasks to earn Tour Points. These points unlock rewards, boost your rank, and enhance event bonuses. A free Tour Pass is automatically granted to all players upon event commencement.

However, a premium option, the Tour Pass Deluxe ($14.99 USD or equivalent), offers an immediate Victini encounter, superior rewards, and accelerated progression through the Tour Pass tiers.

Earning Tour Points and Their Uses

Tour Points are accumulated through familiar in-game activities: catching Pokémon, participating in raids, and hatching eggs. Daily Pass Tasks provide additional point-earning opportunities. These points unlock various rewards, including Pokémon encounters, Candy, Poké Balls, and more. Higher ranks also increase your Catch XP bonus during the Pokemon GO Tour: Unova event:

  • Tier 2: 1.5x Catch XP
  • Tier 3: 2x Catch XP
  • Tier 4: 3x Catch XP

While Niantic is keeping some rewards under wraps, the free Tour Pass culminates in a Zorua encounter with a unique background. The Deluxe Pass offers a different top-tier reward: the Lucky Trinket.

Understanding the Lucky Trinket

Exclusive to the Tour Pass Deluxe, the Lucky Trinket is a single-use item transforming a friend (at least Great Friends level) into a Lucky Friend. This allows a Lucky Pokémon trade without requiring Best Friend status. Note: Lucky Trinkets obtained during GO Tour: Unova expire on March 9, 2025.
