Pokemon TCG Vending Machines: A Fan's Guide

If you're a Pokemon fan, you've likely encountered buzz about Pokemon vending machines on social media. As The Pokemon Company expands their US rollout, many have questions – and we have the answers.

What are Pokemon Vending Machines?

These automated machines dispense Pokemon merchandise, much like a soda machine – though the price point might be a bit higher. While various types have existed, the current US focus is on TCG-centric models initially tested in Washington in 2017. Their success led to wider deployment across US grocery stores.

These machines are easily noticeable, boasting bright colors and clear Pokemon branding. Their user-friendly touchscreens replace older button-press systems, allowing easy browsing and selection of TCG items. Payment is via credit card, and the process includes charming Pokemon animations. A digital receipt is emailed to the purchaser, but note that returns are not accepted.

What Merchandise Do They Sell?

US Pokemon vending machines primarily stock Pokemon TCG products, including Elite Trainer Boxes, Booster Packs, and related items. Stock levels vary, but a recent observation showed good availability even during a busy shopping period, though newer Elite Trainer Boxes were sold out. Unlike some Pokemon Center machines in Washington (which stock a broader range of merchandise and are reportedly being phased out), these primarily focus on TCG products; plushies, apparel, and video games are not typically available.

Locating a Nearby Machine

A comprehensive list of active US Pokemon TCG vending machines is available on the official Pokemon Center website. Currently, machines are located in Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Nevada, Ohio, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Washington, Wisconsin. To find nearby locations, select your state on the website to view participating stores. Distribution is currently concentrated in specific cities within each state and primarily within partner grocery stores, including Albertsons, Fred Meyer, Frys, Kroger, Pick ‘n Save, Safeway, Smith’s, and Tom Thumb. The Pokemon Center website allows users to follow the location list for updates on new machine additions.
