Monster Hunter Wilds: Huge Launch Despite Bugs, MTX
Monster Hunter Wilds boasts over 1 million concurrent Steam players despite receiving mixed reviews. Let's delve into the game's PC performance and current issues.
Monster Hunter Wilds: A Rocky Launch Despite Massive Popularity
Mixed Reviews Don't Deter Millions
Despite mixed Steam reviews, Monster Hunter Wilds has achieved a staggering 1,384,608 concurrent players (as of this writing), according to SteamDB. This surpasses previous entries, with Monster Hunter World peaking at 334,684 and Monster Hunter Rise at 231,360. However, the game currently holds a "Mixed" rating on Steam, with only 57% positive reviews out of 54,669. The primary complaints center around poor PC optimization and performance issues.
Capcom Addresses PC Performance Concerns
Capcom has acknowledged the negative feedback regarding PC performance. On February 28, 2025, the official Monster Hunter Status Twitter (X) account addressed these concerns and provided solutions. Their post linked to the MH Wilds support website, offering troubleshooting steps such as updating graphics drivers, checking for Windows updates, and performing a clean driver installation. For persistent issues, they directed players to the official Steam community troubleshooting thread for more detailed assistance.
Game-Breaking Bug Halts Story Progression
A critical bug is currently preventing players from progressing through the main story. The NPC required for Main Mission: Chapter 5-2, "A World Turned Upside Down," is failing to appear. Monster Hunter Status confirmed awareness of this issue on March 2, 2025, and stated they are actively working on a resolution. Additional issues, including the inability to unlock "Grill a Meal" and "Ingredient Center" features (despite meeting requirements), and problems accessing the Smithy, have also been reported and are being addressed with hotfixes and updates across platforms.
Character Customization Locked Behind Microtransactions
Altering character and Palico appearance in MH Wilds requires microtransactions. The "Monster Hunter Wilds - Character Edit Voucher Three-Voucher Pack" allows three character resets for $6.00 across all digital storefronts. While basic adjustments like hair, eyebrow, and facial color remain free, extensive customization necessitates purchasing this voucher (a separate voucher exists for Palico edits, or a bundled pack for both at $10). Capcom is offering a single free character edit voucher, despite these microtransactions being absent during the testing phase. The inclusion of these transactions was, however, previously announced.
