Marvel Rivals Rank Reset Mid-Season Proves Too Controversial, Prompting Reversal
Marvel Rivals has reversed its decision on mid-season player rank resets following significant player feedback. Read on to learn more about the changes and upcoming developments.
Marvel Rivals Reverses Mid-Season Rank Reset Plan
Dev Talk 11: Seasonal Rank Adjustments Revised
Marvel Rivals has retracted its plan for mid-season rank resets announced in Dev Talk 10. The official Marvel Rivals Twitter (X) account issued a new update (Dev Talk 11) directly addressing player concerns. The initial plan, detailed in Dev Talk 10, involved a four-division rank drop every 45 days. This was met with considerable backlash from players who felt it was discouraging, especially for those actively climbing the ranks.
Dev Talk 11 confirms that there will be no mid-season rank reset. Players will retain their end-of-first-half season rank and scores. However, the end-of-season rank reset, resulting in a six-division drop, remains in place.
Human Torch, The Thing, and Other Updates Remain on Track
Despite the reversal on mid-season resets, other updates are proceeding as planned. The release of Human Torch and The Thing, expanding the roster to 39 heroes, is still on schedule. NetEase Games’ previous commitment to adding two new playable characters per three-month season remains unchanged.
Rewards for players reaching Gold rank and above also remain unaffected. Players who achieve Gold rank or higher will receive an Invisible Woman costume. Grandmaster and above will receive Crests of Honor. Additional rewards, including another free costume and Crests of Honor for Grandmaster and above, will be awarded at the end of the season.
Balance adjustments were previously announced for the mid-season update; however, details are yet to be released.
Marvel Rivals Responds to Community Concerns
Marvel Rivals’ swift response to player feedback is noteworthy. Within hours of publishing Dev Talk 10, they addressed the concerns and released Dev Talk 11. The developers emphasized their commitment to community feedback, stating: "We strive to make Marvel Rivals the best game it can be, and the community is the driving force behind this mission! [...] Your engagement and support mean the world to us, and we're excited to continue this journey together!"
The Marvel Rivals mid-season update is scheduled for February 21, 2025. The game is currently available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Visit our Marvel Rivals page for the latest updates.
