"MageTrain: Fast-Paced Pixel Roguelike Now on Android"
Tidepool Games has just released a thrilling new game for Android enthusiasts: MageTrain. If you're a fan of Nimble Quest, you'll find MageTrain's gameplay strikingly familiar, as it draws significant inspiration from that classic. This game blends the mechanics of Snake, auto-battlers, and roguelikes into a fast-paced pixel art adventure.
What’s MageTrain Like?
In MageTrain, you take control of a line of heroes that trail behind you, much like a snake. As you navigate through the arena, each hero automatically attacks enemies. Your role is crucial in managing the formation—deciding who leads and who supports, as their abilities vary based on their position in the train.
At launch, MageTrain offers nine unique heroes, including one who throws birds. Each hero brings different skills to the table, depending on their position within the group. You'll journey through eight distinct dungeons, battle against 28 enemy types, and unlock 30 skills to enhance your team. Along the way, you'll collect gold and power-ups to boost your chances of survival.
The roguelike structure ensures that each run is unique. You'll navigate branching paths, make strategic choices for upgrades, and aim to last as long as possible. Similar to games like Slay the Spire or FTL, there are no fixed levels, and you can't save your progress mid-run. A single mistake, whether it's crashing into an obstacle or being overwhelmed by enemies, means starting over.
It Isn’t Slow-Paced
The excitement of MageTrain lies in the continuous improvement you experience with each run, even if you don't make it to the end. You'll learn when to play defensively, when to launch an all-out attack, and when to simply hold on for another 30 seconds.
MageTrain is now available on Android and is free to play. Head over to the Google Play Store to dive into this action-packed game.
