Top horror studio Blumhouse is gearing up to celebrate its 15th anniversary in a thrilling way by bringing back the 2022 hit, *M3GAN*, to theaters. This move comes just ahead of the much-anticipated sequel, *M3GAN 2.0*. However, this limited theatrical engagement isn't just a simple re-run; it's set to shake things up with some controversial new features that encourage smartphone use during screenings.

As part of their innovative Halfway to Halloween initiative, Shudder plans to screen *M3GAN*, along with *Ma* and *Annabelle*, for one-night-only events. These screenings will incorporate Meta’s “Movie Mate” technology, enabling audience members to engage with M3GAN through a chatbot and enjoy second-screen capabilities that offer real-time exclusive content.

“Movie Mate is exclusively available to moviegoers in theaters and activates by sending a direct message to the Instagram account @M3GAN,” Blumhouse explained in a statement covered by Variety. “The experience is tailored to enhance the ‘second screen’ viewing, leveraging Meta’s capabilities to heighten excitement leading up to the release of *M3GAN 2.0* on June 27.”

The studio also teased additional perks for fans, including sneak peeks, exclusive recorded messages from the films' directors and talent, and surprise special appearances in select markets. While this approach aims to inject fresh energy into the theatrical experience, it raises concerns about further diluting the traditional cinema atmosphere. Only time will reveal how fans will respond to this interactive twist, but one thing is clear: there's a hope that such features won't become standard in regular screenings anytime soon.
