Idris Elba Wants 'Cyberpunk' Live-Action with Keanu
Idris Elba, star of Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, envisions a Cyberpunk 2077 live-action film starring himself and Keanu Reeves. In a recent interview, Elba expressed his excitement about the prospect, stating that a live-action adaptation featuring his character and Reeves' iconic Johnny Silverhand would be "Whoa."
This isn't a completely unfounded wish. Variety reported in October 2023 that a Cyberpunk 2077 live-action project is underway, with CD Projekt Red collaborating with Anonymous Content. While details remain scarce, the success of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and The Witcher live-action series suggests a Cyberpunk 2077 adaptation is a strong possibility.
Elba's enthusiasm stems from his experience voicing Solomon Reed in Phantom Liberty, alongside Reeves' already established Johnny Silverhand. The potential for their on-screen chemistry is a major draw for fans.
Beyond the live-action film, the Cyberpunk universe continues to expand. A prequel manga to Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, titled Cyberpunk: Edgerunners MADNESS, has launched, focusing on Rebecca and Pilar before joining Maine's crew. A Blu-ray release of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is also planned for 2025, and a new animated series is in the works. The future of Cyberpunk looks bright across multiple media.
