How to Beat Quematrice in Monster Hunter Wilds
Weaknesses: Water
Resistances: N/A
Immunities: Sonic Bomb
The Quematrice, a giant chicken-like creature reminiscent of the Cockatrice, thankfully opts for fire-breathing over petrifying its foes. As a mid-sized monster, it's susceptible to most weapons, but its attacks often affect the area around it. If you're less confident in close combat, consider using a weapon with some range for safety.
When it comes to its notable attacks, be wary of its tail strikes and sweeps, which can inflict significant damage, especially the tail slam. This attack sees the Quematrice lifting its tail high before slamming it down. You can avoid this by sidestepping or blocking. However, its fire-based attacks are the real threat. Not only do they cause immediate damage, but they can also ignite you, causing ongoing health drain, and even set the ground ablaze.
These fire attacks are tricky to predict. The Quematrice might rear its head and roar before unleashing a flame from its tail in front of it. Another attack involves a full sweep after a similar roar, affecting everything around it with fire. It can also combine this with a charging move, running toward you and then turning to throw fire at the last moment. If you're fighting from a distance, start moving backward as soon as you see it initiate these attacks to dodge the flames.
How to Capture Quematrice in Monster Hunter Wilds
To capture the Quematrice, you'll need the right equipment: a Shock Trap and a Pitfall Trap, plus at least two Tranq Bombs. While one trap is technically enough, having a backup is crucial in Monster Hunter games, especially if the monster escapes or another creature triggers it.
Once the Quematrice is weakened to the point of limping, or you notice the skull icon appearing and disappearing on the mini-map, it's time to set a trap. For simplicity, wait until it has fled to a new area after limping. Place your trap, lure the Quematrice into it, and then throw two Tranq Bombs to successfully capture it.
