A new report sheds light on Gummy Bears, a PlayStation first-party MOBA initially developed by Bungie and now helmed by a newly formed PlayStation studio. This intriguing project, rumored to be in development since at least 2022, is expected to target a younger audience than Bungie's previous titles.

Initially revealed in August 2023, Gummy Bears' development shifted following Bungie's 2024 layoffs and subsequent integration of staff into Sony Interactive Entertainment. This integration led to the creation of a new, approximately 40-person PlayStation studio now responsible for the game's completion. While a release date remains elusive, the game's development continues.

A Unique Twist on the MOBA Genre:

Gummy Bears distinguishes itself from traditional MOBAs through its innovative damage system. Instead of health bars, the game utilizes a percentage-based damage mechanic, mirroring the system found in the popular Super Smash Bros. franchise. High enough damage percentages result in characters being knocked off the map, adding a unique strategic layer.

The game will feature the standard MOBA character classes: Attack, Defense, and Support. Multiple game modes and a distinctive "cozy, vibrant, and lo-fi" aesthetic are also planned, a deliberate departure from Bungie's previous darker, more mature titles. This stylistic shift aims to broaden the game's appeal to a younger player base.
