Evangelion Crossover Event Fails to Impress NIKKE Players

Shift Up's Goddess of Victory: NIKKE Evangelion crossover fell short of expectations, according to a recent interview with the game's producer. The August 2024 collaboration, featuring Rei, Asuka, Mari, and Misato, missed the mark in several key areas.

Where Did It Go Wrong?

The initial designs for the Evangelion characters, created collaboratively by Shift Up and the Nikke team, were deemed too suggestive by Evangelion's creators. Subsequent modifications, while satisfying the licensors, failed to resonate with players. The resulting outfits, while faithful to the source material, lacked the appeal to entice players.

Player Feedback:

The underwhelming costumes weren't the only issue. Players felt little incentive to spend on limited-time characters or skins, particularly given the minimal visual differences between Asuka's gacha skin and her base model. The lack of significant visual flair diminished the appeal.

The collaboration also diluted NIKKE's established identity – its distinctive, over-the-top anime aesthetic and engaging storyline. Players felt the event was stretched and uninspired.

Shift Up acknowledges the feedback and promises improvements in future collaborations. Hopefully, this translates into more exciting content in the months to come.

You can download Neon Genesis Evangelion and Goddess of Victory: NIKKE from the Google Play Store. Let's hope future collaborations from Shift Up will deliver more impactful and engaging experiences.
