The Elder Scrolls Online (ESO) has finally introduced a much-anticipated feature after 11 long years of fan requests: subclasses. Over 3000 Combinations of Skill Lines

As ESO marks its 10th Anniversary, Zenimax Online Studios unveiled exciting plans during the ESO Direct 2025 event on April 10. One of the most significant announcements was the introduction of subclassing, a feature fans have eagerly awaited. Traditionally, players had to create new characters to explore new skill trees, a tedious process in an MMO. Now, with subclasses, players can mix and match skill lines without starting over.

To unlock this feature, players need to reach level 50. Once achieved, they can retain one skill line from their base class and swap out two others with any of the six available classes. This system opens up to 3000 unique combinations, allowing players to tailor their gameplay to their preferred style.

ESO Game Director Rich Lambert expressed confidence in this new feature, stating that the team has conducted extensive testing. Despite potential increases in Power Levels, Lambert assured players that the developers are content with the balance.

Seasons of the Worm Cult

Zenimax Online is also transitioning to a seasonal content model, which Studio Director Matt Firor believes will allow for more experimental content releases and better responsiveness to player feedback. "We want to keep telling great stories, but also mix in new ideas and gameplay systems," Firor explained, "and we'll do this in a different cadence, one that allows us to broaden our focus and increase variety."

The upcoming chapter, "Seasons of the Worm Cult," continues the saga from the original Molag Bal storyline, introducing the Isle of Solstice. Here, players will delve into the resurgence of the Worm Cult. Producer Susan Kath noted that while this season will span most of the year, future seasons will be shorter, lasting between 3 to 6 months. The developers also plan to revisit past storylines in "remix" seasons, with a Dark Brotherhood-themed season teased for the future.
