Dynasty Warriors 10 Scrapped by Developer
Dynasty Warriors: Origins Rises from the Ashes of a Canceled Predecessor
Omega Force's Dynasty Warriors: Origins, launching January 17, 2025, boasts a thrilling hack-and-slash experience set against the backdrop of China's Three Kingdoms period. However, the game's genesis involves a surprising twist: the cancellation of its planned 10th mainline installment.
Technological advancements spurred this pivotal decision. Witnessing the capabilities of the PlayStation 5 and other contemporary consoles, the development team recognized the potential for a more strategically nuanced and modern Dynasty Warriors experience. This led to the conception of Origins, incorporating elements from its canceled predecessor.
Initially envisioned as a stage-clearing title reminiscent of Dynasty Warriors 7, the abandoned project ultimately paved the way for Origins' signature free-roaming gameplay. While bittersweet, the cancellation allowed for a more ambitious and refined game, integrating select features from the scrapped project, including the free-roaming map and a richer narrative exploration of the Three Kingdoms Era. Producer Tomohiko Sho emphasized the transformative impact of modern console technology in shaping this strategic shift. Producer Masamichi Oba highlighted the challenging yet ultimately rewarding process of repurposing elements from the canceled title, resulting in a more immersive and engaging experience. The game features a player-controlled amnesiac protagonist interacting with iconic Three Kingdoms figures. Deluxe Edition players have already experienced the fast-paced action firsthand.
