Dr Disrespect's Midnight Society Shuts Down, Cancels Game
Midnight Society, the game studio co-founded by renowned streamer Guy 'Dr. Disrespect' Beahm, has announced its closure after three remarkable years. In a heartfelt post on X, the studio shared the news, stating, "Today we are announcing Midnight Society will be closing its doors after three incredible years, with an amazing team of over 55 developers." The post also included a call for assistance, asking if any studios are currently hiring and could offer employment opportunities to their dedicated team members.
Midnight Society was established by Beahm, along with industry veterans Robert Bowling and Quinn Delhyo, who have worked on iconic titles such as Call of Duty and Halo. The studio's debut project, Deadrop, was envisioned as a free-to-play first-person shooter (FPS) that would leverage the team's extensive experience. Initially targeting a 2024 release, Deadrop unfortunately missed its launch window.

In 2024, Midnight Society parted ways with Beahm after the streamer disclosed exchanging messages with a minor through Twitch's Whispers feature, which he admitted "sometimes leaned too much in the direction of being inappropriate." Despite this split, the studio continued to work on Deadrop until its closure this year.
Set in a fictional universe where "the 80s never ended," Deadrop's visuals showcased characters donning Daft Punk-inspired helmets and wielding an assortment of guns and swords. The gameplay was designed as a PvPvE style extraction shooter, promising a unique blend of competition and collaboration.
Midnight Society's closure adds to the growing list of studios facing shutdowns or layoffs, reflecting the challenging times currently affecting the gaming industry. Companies like Ubisoft, BioWare, Phoenix Labs, and many others have also felt the impact of these industry-wide difficulties.
